Took a motorcycle ride down to Cat Hollow in Killingly, CT on Sunday. Have been hearing about it for years and at first we couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. We walked down to the small dam and then continued on to the large dam. The sign said “Picnic Area” but the road was blocked to vehicle traffic and we didn’t see any picnic tables, just a few concrete fireplaces overgrown by grass. The dam was impressive but hard to see because of all the vegetation. On the way back we began to notice large swaths of pachysandra, some gorgeous Japanese Maples and Japanese clustering bamboo. These plantings must have cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, but are almost invisible in the overgrowth. It is sad to say but even in India, Peru and Ecuador, public spaces are much better maintained.
